Flying Screaming
How can I get my cockatiels to wear one of those bird harnesses (leash thingy) without them screaming at me?
I just bought a harness for my cockatiels. I only bought one to try it out. I just don’t like clipping their wings – what is the point of an aviary if they can’t fly around in it? One of them has their wings nearly full grown and can now fly enough to get away from us. On the packet it says use treats but I don’t have any. Does anyone know another way to do it?
IN my experience I have used the harness, and that one is practically the most complicated and dangerous. My cockatiel literally would take a poop whenever it was near it’s cage, not to mention he would scream even before I put it on.
Plus it is VERY heavy for small birds, they literally fall down and are unable to get up while wearing it.
It’s good for birds like Amazons and bigger birds but small-medium birds I will not.
I also tried the bird diaper which is different as it catches poop, it is better but my bird still hated it.
You can only use these things on baby birds and large birds, frankly.
So get yourself a flight suit trained bird who’s used to it since weaning or don’t use it at all, the bird will never become used to such an unnatural thing on it’s body now that all it’s feathers have grown in.
