Lord of the Flies or Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde: How does evil grow and affect society as a whole?
I have to write an Englsh essay on this question, and I wanted a few ideas as a base for developing my thesis.
The prompt can be directed towards William Golding’s Lord of the Flies, a story of civilization vs. Savagery, and to Stevenson’s Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, a story of inner evil and a dual personality.

The theme of primitivity is important in Lord of the Flies as it pertains to the development of evil. As the boys get closer to their base nature, survival trumps all the worst characteristics of all come out.
In Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, the evil grows from within. Eventually the evil personality must come out.
