Would a million dollar life insurance policy taken out by your spouse raise flags?
I mean how much of an insurance policy does your spouse really need? I am all for getting them, but a million dollar policy seems suspicous to me. Me and my husband both have a policy in play, but it for fifty thousand. That is more than enough to bury someone and take care of any other leftover expenses. What do you think?

The purpose of life insurance is to replace the earnings of someone who dies. If you were to assume a return on investment of 10%, then $500,000 would yield about $50,000 a year. So if your spouse had an annual income of $35,000, then a $350,000 policy would be sufficient to generate $35,000 annually forever. This is simplified, but it gives you an idea.
If your husband suddenly takes out a million-dollar policy on you and if you are not even working, it would be a good idea to quietly get one-way bus tickets tomorrow for someplace far, far away.
