Are Barking Collars Really Needed?
If your pet barks a lot without apparent reason, you might want to do something about it since it can really annoy and upset your neighbors and even your family members.
What Can You Do?
First of all, see why your dog is barking. There is probably a reason why your dog is barking so much, probably a health issue or something is scaring him; if you find out, you’ll probably won’t need a barking collar.
If your dog barks from anxiety or stress, punishing your dog for barking will only increase the problem. Try using positive training techniques instead. One thing that you can do is to expose your dog to the stimulus that scares it, like a big group of people, a running mottor, or the ring of a cellphone, while you are next to it and calm it down. If these don’t work, get the help of a professional – a dog trainer or vet can help.
About The Bark Collar?
A good idea to eliminate excessive barking is through the use of a bark collar. There are three main types of anti barking collars, although some collars belong to more than one type.
Citrus spray (or “citronella”) can spray from the collar when the dog barks. Some of these Barking Collars even hiss a bit before releasing the spray, so that dogs can learn to stop the barking before the spray happens.
Other types of anti barking collars use ultrasound waves that can only be heard by the dog and that is activated whenever the dog starts barking. The dog eventually learns to link the sound to the barking and reduces its barking.
Finally, electronic bark collars work by giving a small shock to the dog’s neck whenever it barks. It doesn’t hurt the dog, but it can deter barking.
Barking Collars can really help deter the excessive barking of a dog. The three main methods of bark collars are citrus spray, sound emission, and electrical shock. All of these are harmless, yet effective in reducing the amount of barking.
