Jack Russell Terrier Training – The Drop It Command
Just because they are identified as remarkably intelligent breed does not mean that they can do nicely with no jack russell terrier training. Each dog, no matter what breed, needs to go through proper training to make them a pleasure to be around.
Since jack russell terriers were bred to hunt quarry from their dens, it is therefore not unusual if you will find it difficult to get your dog give up, abandon or drop something he should not have. But challenging as it may seem to be, you really ought to train your furry friend commands like these to make sure that he is free from harm always. You would not want your beloved terrier to eat other dog’s poop, right?
The best time to get started on training this command is when he is playing with his toy. Get his attention by holding a treat in front of his nose. Naturally he will drop the toy in exchange of treat. Repeat the procedure and once he became used to dropping the toy whenever he sees a treat, pop in the command “drop it!”. Say the command in sharp and firm tone to let him know that you’re serious with the task and not playing with him. If he drops the toy after you gave the verbal command, reward him with praise in addition to the treat you are holding.
Reinforce the command at any time of the day, with different stuff and in various areas of the house. If he is reliably trained with the command, begin to substitute the food rewards with a lot of praise and time to play to prevent him from turning out to be food dependent.
Mastering the drop it command is not only a trick to entertain other people and show them how effective a pet owner you are.The main purpose of dog training is to keep your dog in control and to save him from possible risks like eating foreign objects or chewing household stuff.
