how do you train a Saint Bernard not to pull?
I have a 6 month old lovable sweet Saint bernard. He knows sit, stay, he is house trained. Our only problem is he pulls me when he’s on a leash. It has become almost impossible for me to walk him because he’s practically dragging me down the street. I know this will only get worse if i don’t get it stopped now. I need suggestions on how to train him not to pull. Any help greatly appreciated!
Find an area you can walk in any direction. Put a bag of kibble in your pocket, leash him up, and start out briskly on your left foot. When he starts pulling, do an about turn and keep walking. Eventually he will be watching your left leg or your face to see where you’re going. When he does, say “Yes!” and give him a piece of kibble. Then walk a few steps, make a right angle turn, walk a few more steps, etc. Say yes and reward him for paying attention to you.
